Posted by Yuva kshatriya Thakor Samaj

Morbi is very well renowned as ‘Paris Of India’. Heritage place in Morbi includes Mani Mandir, Darbargadh Palace, Mahendra Drive, Nehru Gate, Green Tower and Hanging Bridge Julta pul.

Mani Mandir :

Mani Mandir is also well known as Willingdon Secretariat or Wagh Mahel. In some part of History, It’s tell that this building was built by Sir Waghjee Thakor in the remembrance of his concubine ‘Mani’!

In Gujarati ‘Hindu Temple’ is called as ‘Mandir’. Mani Mandir is a temple of Radha-Krishna, Shri Laxmi Naryana and God Shiva. Mani Mandir is one of the Great example of the Temple Architecture in India. It refreshes memory of Mughal Empire. It was constructed with expenses of 3 million (30 lakh) in that time. Mani Mandir was also one of the Hidden place for King. To this date no one could count total cellars in this Building!

Before the Earthquake, some part of Willingdon Secretariat was also used by the Morbi Administration. But unfortunately most of part was fallen down after the deadly earthquake!!

Darbargadh Palace :

Darbargadh Palace a new restored property of Neemrana Hotels is located 67 kms from Rajkot and 27 kms from Wakaner in Morbi (Gujarat - India)

The Jadejas ruled Morbi (Morvi) from the 17th century, but the oldest wing of their palaces that remain at Darbargadh, dates back to circa 1885 and is credited to HH Shri Waghji Rawaji Thakore.

Morbi is situated on the bank of Machchu River. Machchu Dam was built over the Machchu River offering a scenic backdrop.

Nehru Gate :

In 1925 it was inaugurated by Sir Lloyd , British Governor of Bombay, and was named ‘Llyod Gate’. After Independence

it was renamed as ‘Nehru Gate’. In past it was the main gate of Morbi Kingdom so it’s also famous as ‘Nagar Darwaza’. The Nehru Gate is made out of stone using elements of Rajput architecture with central clock tower.

After the Earthquake most of it’s part was damaged badly. But in 2007, It was rebuilt by Morbi Municipality under the supervision of Hemen Sanghavi and his intern Arpan Raval.
Green Tower

Inspired from the ‘Eiffel Tower’ of Paris, Maharaja Lakhdhirji planned for Green Tower. It’s totally green so it’s called as ‘Green Tower’. It was inaugurated by Mayer Wood in 1888.

‘Julto Pul’ (Hanging Bridge) :

Spanning the Machuchu River, it is one of the few hanging structures in India. It was constructed of special teak wood, iron and wires imported from England by the erstwhile ruler of Morbi, Thakore Vaghe, some 180 years back.

Due to its unique design and cultural value, the bridge has almost become synonymous with the industrial town of Morbi in Rajkot district.

The bridge connecting Barbargadh Palace to Nazarbaug was in operation till 1979 when a devastating cyclone struck this town. Since then, several repairs have taken place, but due to its deteriorating condition, the Rajkot district administration closed the bridge to save this famous Saurashtra landmark from complete collapse.

The Julto Pul was constructed over a span of four years starting 1883. The bridge is 756-feet long and 4.6-feet wide. The main wooden lane has now been replaced with aluminium composite sheet, which is not only durable, but more lightweight compared to teak. The wooden support beams have also been replaced with weatherproof aluminium channels. To give it a complete weatherproof effect, the sheets and channels are being coated with high temperature aluminium paint.
